It's my birthday and I'll cry if I want to - Part 1

This week saw the arrival of my 42nd birthday (I know, I only look 30). And I was treated to a whole week's worth of adventures by my awesome fella, Mike.

My birthday kicked off with dinner with the family at the Rose & Crown, my current local until we move to Redditch (I assure you Alistair, it does exist). Here, I was given a series of riddles to answer to reveal the destinations for our adventure. Unsurprisingly, I couldn't solve any of the riddles.

The first leg of our journey was to Blackpool, somewhere I have been threatening to take the small child to for as long as I can remember. Our hotel, The Big Blue, was situated at the nicer end of Blackpool and next door to Blackpool Pleasure Beach, which Mike had booked us tickets for.

Upon arrival, we headed straight for the Big One, their iconic roller coaster and the highest in the UK. Luckily, the weather was on our side as we had to queue for 2hrs to ride the roller coaster of death. When it was finally our turn, I screamed throughout the whole ride and was certain we were going to derail and die.
After leaving the theme park, Mike had booked us tickets for Pasaje del Terror, Blackpool's very own house of horror. Although you're only inside the ghoulish attraction for around 10 minutes, it's absolutely terrifying. It's hard to tell whether I screamed more on the roller coaster of death, or in the house of horrors. Needless to say I shat myself (not literally I must point out).
After returning to the hotel to calm my nerves and have some dinner, we headed off up the boulevard towards Blackpool Tower. Along the walk we stopped off for a paddle in the sea, which was remarkably warm, followed by a walk around two of Blackpool's piers (both equally shite) ,and lastly a drink in Blackpool's premier nightclub, Reflex. By this point my short legs couldn't face the 2 mile walk back to the hotel and we chartered a pony and trap to carry us back.
Once back at the hotel, we headed off to bed to rest for leg two of our journey, Edinburgh...
